Sosa and Starving Students -- Both Move, One Tested Positive For Steroids

In the summer of 1998, Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire engaged in a home run battle for the ages and each jockeyed Sammy_Sosato overtake Roger Maris' the-record 61 home runs in one season. The two would be featured almost nightly as one would top the other seemingly each day en route to eclipsing the legendary mark. McGwire would end up with 70 home runs to Sosa's 65, but both accomplishments would later be tarnished not by Barry Bonds who would later hit 73 home runs in a single season, but also by steroid allegations. McGwire would take execute his fifth amendment right to not incriminate himself and now the New York Times is reporting that Sammy Sosa tested positive for steroid use in 2003. Sosa's reported positive test result comes shortly after another superstar, Alex Rodriguez, admitted to prior steroid use, further tainting the sport that is now loosely referred to as "America's Favorite Pastime".

It's important to note at this time that Sammy Sosa has never worked for Starving Students, yet we do our best to hit home runs each time we move you. Give us a call at (888) 931-MOVE (6683) and see how we can give you the best move you've ever had!

Shue Won't Move Back To Melrose Place

Andrew Shue, the actor who played "Billy" on the original rendition of Melrose Place, has refused to reprise the role that once made him a household name saying he doesn't think the show should be brought back. Shue noted that the show had a great run during its initial incarnation but that the series shouldn't be brought back. Interestingly enough, both Laura Leighton and Thomas Calabro will both be reprising their roles, taking their place alongside Ashlee Simpson-Wentz on the new series.

Keep in mind that just because Billy isn't coming back doesn't mean you should avoid your plans to move to Melrose Place or any other location. Go ahead and give us a call at (888) 931-MOVE (6683) and see how Starving Students can make our latest incarnation of your move better than any move you've ever had.

Umpire Gets People To Move Like Starving Students

A high school baseball game in Iowa became notable not because of anything any of the players did, but by the actions of the umpire who decided the crowd should do like Starving Students and move. Home umpire Don Briggs became upset Baseball_At-Batafter a run that was reversed after he realized time-out had been called, drew the ire of the West Burlington's skipper who received a warning from the home plate ump. Briggs also warned the crowd, which mysteriously didn't stop one fan from yelling out an objection. In retalliation for this defiance, Briggs made the decision to eject the crowd of 100.

Starving Students agrees with Briggs' decision of moving, just not the decision to force 100 baseball fans to move out of their seats and away from the game. If you'd like to move on your own terms, go ahead and give Starving Students a call at (888) 931-MOVE (6683) or shoot us an e-mail here today.

Switch Your Digital TV's Location With Starving Students

For the past few months or so, we've all heard talk of how you have to have your analog televisions switched to digital to avoid having them turned off. I personally only know of one person that has had to go buy that little converter box in order to avoid having the unthinkable happen, so it hasn't really impacted me too much. Still, it's interesting to read that millions of people might be forced to be without TV as of 11:59 pm tonight because their television isn't ready for the change.

Take solace in knowing that Starving Students isn't as fickle as this conversion. We'll never shut you out because your television is or isn't digital and in fact, we'll switch your televisions location during your move regardless of its status. At the same time, you can save some money on your move with our Cram Session offer and make your move that much better.

Pay Off Your Student Loan With Starving Students

For more than 36 years, Starving Students has been providing the best move our customers have ever had. In case you haven't heard the story, the company's owner and a partner started the moving company as a way to help pay their way through college and a short time later, Starving Students became a thriving enterprise. Well, imagine if the owner had decided to take out a student loan instead of digging that truck out from the side of that hill. I know, I know ... I shudder thinking about where we'd all be at, too. But the fact is that some of us aren't as shrewd and actually took out a student loan or two to make ends meet while battling college and because of this decision, we're mired in student loan debt.

If this describes you, go ahead and take a look at some of the offers on our site to see how you can save money on your move or more importantly, earn some money by referring someone to our company and get a $20 check sent right to your mailbox. Just think -- refer a few hundred friends and/or family and you can be well on your way to paying back that student debt!

Earn Money For Father's Day

Growing up, I didn't have any money. That's one of the problems with being a kid I guess. Now that I've grown a little, I don't speak to my father but if I did, I could afford to buy him something but with the economy the way that it is, wouldn't money be a better gift?

This year, Father's Day falls on Sunday, June 21st, and what better gift would there be than $20 off of a move or the opportunity for father's everywhere to make some money? Take a look at some of our offers and see how you can make this Father's Day even more special with the gift of money!

Move Closer To Zack And Slater!

Even though I'm the only one who openly admits it, millions of people watched Saved By The Bell. I happened to watch it mostly in reruns, but I still admit I watched it. In fact, I've probably seen each episode more than once. When I first started watching it, I figured it was an indicator as to how high school was going to be when I entered and I thought we'd have a Zack, Lisa, Kelly, Slater, Screech and Jessie, too. Turns out we didn't. We didn't even have The Max, the popular hangout the kids would go to for meals and Sock Hops. Regardless, it appears as though Jimmy Fallon might succeed in actually bringing the kids back together courtesy of his late-night talk show so we can see the gang all reunited again.

I'm not sure exactly where Bayside was located, but if you're moving there to be closer to the soon-to-be-reunited group, go ahead and give us a call and see how we can save on your move to Malibu or wherever the school was. In fact, save money on your move with our Cram Session and enjoy the best move you've ever had!

Saturn Now Owned By Penske

With news of General Motor's bankruptcy fresh in our minds, it should come as no surprise that GM has decided to GM_Corporate_Officesell off their Saturn brand to Penske Motors. The deal is part of a larger plan that General Motors has put in place after filing for bankruptcy on Monday. Saturn originally cost GM somewhere in the neighborhood of $5 billion in the late 1980s when you factor in development costs and factories, but sales peaked at only 286,000 when union issues arose for GM causing all sorts of problems.

As GM continues to try and save money after declaring bankruptcy and selling off Saturn, we'd like to remind them that they can also save money by offering the Cram Session to their employees or even people who buy Saturn vehicles by clicking here This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Shin Kicking Leagues and Moving Don't Mix

Soon to be filed away in your strange new sports category, shin kicking contests have been sprouting up in leagues around rural England in which participants grab each other by the shoulders and continue to kick each other in the shin until one of them can't stand anymore. Shin_KickingNaturally at that point, the other guy (or gal, maybe?) is declared the winner.

I imagine there are injuries that take place in this "sport". I might be wrong, but it might hurt to get kicked in the shin repeatedly. Choosing A Moving Company

Moving tips are important to keep in mind when choosing a moving company and there are plenty of them to keep in mind. You always want to make sure you're choosing the right moving company for your local, long distance or commercial move. On May 16th, Tania Anderson of The Washington Post compiled a list of tips to keep in mind when choosing a moving company:

* Tip No. 1: As soon as your house hits the market, you'll start getting promotional cards in the mail and phone calls. Look through them for interesting deals. Research some of the names and see how they fare on consumer review services.
* Tip No. 2: Get recommendations from friends and family. Anyone who's ever used a moving company will have strong opinions about whether it was good or not. Some of the best moving companies just get business through word of mouth, so you won't hear about them through promotions or advertising. Cartoon_Moving_Truck
* Tip No. 3: Get several in-home estimates. No company will be able to tell you over the phone an accurate figure of how much it will cost to move your stuff. A salesperson from the moving company will walk through your home, making note of large furniture, breakable items like china and how much furniture needs to be broken down for moving purposes. Don't forget to show them the attic, garage and basement where many items get stored. Moving companies kept telling me that my attic would be the most expensive piece of the move because of how much stuff we had stored there.
* Tip No. 4: If you're working with a local Realtor, ask if she has any discounts or coupons with moving companies. My Realtor was able to get me a 10 percent discount with a large local moving company
* Tip No. 5: Pack your own stuff, especially if your moving date is a few weeks down the road. Having a moving company pack your items will double the price of the move. Even tackling a few boxes every weekend is worth saving the money. I've even heard of people having packing parties where they get a few friends together for food and drinks and some packing.
* Tip No. 6: Most moving companies will offer a few options for insurance to cover items that are broken, damaged or lost. You pay a certain amount, usually $4 to $9 for every $1,000 of your items' value.
* Movers aren't perfect, so insurance is probably a good way to go. But check with your own insurance policies to see if you already have coverage for moving damages. If not, choose an insurance plan based on the type of items the company will be moving. If you have lots of sentimental antiques, more coverage may be the best way to go.
* Tip No. 7: Don't plan your move for a holiday weekend like Memorial Day or Labor Day. The rates go up on three-day holiday weekends, especially those that fall at the end of the month.
* Tip No. 8: Once you get a few estimates, figure out your favorite and ask if it can tweak its estimate to compete with the others. All the moving companies I spoke to said they would consider bringing down the price to match estimates from similar firms.

If you have any questions on any of the tips above or would like to find out more about Starving Students and how we measure up with these tips, go ahead and give us a call at (888) 931-MOVE today.

Helpful Hints To Help You Find A Moving Company

Whether you're moving to be closer to relatives, to save money in these tough economic times (and you know times are tough when even Google's struggling) or you're tired of being ridiculed for having eight children that result in you being called "Octo Mom", moving isn't always the most fun thing to do. On top of that, you have to pick out a moving company and be sure that it's the right one for you and that you'll be satisfied with your move. Needless to say, the idea of gathering up all of your belongings and loading them into a truck to take them to a new location can be daunting to say the least.

So with that, here are some questions you should ask when picking out a moving company for your big move:
  • Are they licensed and insured?
  • How do they charge hourly or by weight?
  • Are there any additional fees?
  • Do they charge extra for large items?
  • Is there a minimum number of hours or a minimum charge?

Moving? Hold A Yard Sale!

Reduce clutter at your new home by holding a yard sale or donating to charity.

Sometimes moving can be quite a burden. You never know how much stuff you have until you have to take each item and find a way to get it from point A to point B without losing it, making sure it doesn't get broken and so forth. A simple way to reduce the amount of clutter that's outgrown its usefulness around your house is to hold a yard sale or donate it to your neighborhood church. Not only will it benefit someone else, but there's a good chance that it can be written off come tax season -- a nice way to help get through these tough economic times.

For more tips like this one, visit Starving Students today!
